God So Loved The World!

Corey Bivens Pastor's Blog February 19, 2020

“For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life. John 3:16 ESV

As a little boy, I can remember my Big Ma’ reading this passage of scripture to me religiously. It was the very first scripture I learned to memorize. All through her home, you would find this passage of scripture on tablecloths, on plaques, and posters. I never got the opportunity to ask her why this passage meant so much to her, but I can certainly share with you why it became so important to me.

Growing up in Pine Bluff, which is the tenth-largest city in the state of Arkansas, there wasn’t very much to do after the school bell rang, other than grabbing my fishing pole and heading down to one of the many waterholes with my best friend Timmie. On these trips, we would attempt to fish and talk about life. Can you imagine two nine-year old’s talking about life? But there we were, going on and on about life and the world.

And on one day, it connected with me, “God so loved the world!” And I began to tell my best friend that story. This was the only scripture I knew at the time, and I wanted Him to know I knew it, and I wanted him to see the beauty of the World through the same lenses I was. Now, I would not say that my friend got saved that day, but I can certain share with you that it was that scripture that lead me down the aisle at the tender age of ten to accept this gift that God has given to us.

That’s why this scripture means so much to me because it introduced me to My Lord and Savior, Jesus The Christ. And since accepting my call into the ministry, I now use it to share with others about the Perfect Person, who sent a Perfect Son, to save a Perverse People, with a Plain Plan. Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you shall be saved. (Acts 16:31)

Moving ahead, I have been blessed in so many ways, as a result of my Grandmother caring enough to share Christ with me, and for me to accept the gift of God’s unfailing love. I have been able to travel around the world sharing the love of Christ with others, and now I am faced with an opportunity to walk along side Larry Williamson and Crosstown Fellowship Church seeking to continue to let my light shine so that those in Hillsboro and surrounding areas may see our good works and glorify our Father in Heaven.

Until He Comes!
